Andrew is played by 39-year-old actor, John Dye.
Even though the concept 'Angel of Death' at first sounds scary, there is absolutely nothing scary at all about him. Andrew is a very compassionate and gentile angel. Somehow, he possesses the ability to take the fear of death away from the people he helps. As an Angel of Death, Andrew does not cause someone to die, he is merely there to help a person get through. Even when he shows up in an episode, it does not imply that someone will die, sometimes he works as a Caseworker of sorts and helps with these particular assignments.
Andrew was a caseworker before he became an Angel of Death and his first assignment as an Angel of Death (AOD) was with Abraham Lincoln.
The first Angel of Death during season one as well as parts of season two was Adam (as played by: Charles Rocket) But Adam was somewhat opposite >from Andrew, he did not always show his feelings, and had a very sarcastic humor that many did not feel comfortable with.
What Andrew likes:
* Dogs
* Life
* Paris
* Computer
* Pool
* children
What he doesn't like:
* Halloween - it gives the death a bad reputation
* This image that death, is something cruel, scary, and dark
* Being called 'Andy'
* Having to take children home
* injustice - of course this is normal for an angel.
There is something like a Fan club for all Andrew-Fans in the Internet. It's "JABB" (John Andrew Bucket Brigade), which is a self-help group for Androolers (which is the name for fans of this particular angel. It is an English, so if you can read this translation, you can join in.
Most of the Andrew-fans have very similar reason, why they like him so much. Many people love the image of death that John Dye's portrayal of the Angel of Death depict and that as a peaceful, friendly picture of death.
According to sources, John had received a great many letters from people that are/were fatally ill and were dying. They would write him to thank him for his tender portrayal of Andrew as it offered them, as well as their families the help they needed in order to deal with this particular theme. Further, he was told that the fans writing were not so afraid of death anymore.The portrayal of the Angel of Death helped me personally deal with this aspect of life better. The idea that there would be someone like Andrew would be with me during my last moments on Earth is something that would be nice. Furthermore, I did not stop to contemplate this concept of an Angel of Death until I saw Andrew. The idea that there is someone like Andrew, who helps people in this way, is something that I like very much. However, it also made me curious about this theme. I searched in the Internet about information about the real AOD (if there is one). The only thing that I found was that there should be an angel named Azrael, who is to be the AOD. And I found this:
Some people (like nurses or family members) reported that they had a strange feeling or sensation when someone had died. It has also been reported that those who had near death experiences claimed that there was someone else with them.
I know this strange feeling that someone else is in the room, that some people described, from 2 experiences few years ago
(before I knew TBAA). It scared me to death then, but I think that when it will happen the next time then I won't be afraid again.
If anyone has more information about this particular theme or are interested in sharing similar experiences, then please write me.
